CRITERION - TCI Active Loudspeakers

Fully active, regulated high-end loudspeakers.
T+A has been in existence since 1978. Initially we built only passive loudspeakers, but very soon - in 1984 - they were joined by fully active regulated floor-standing speakers. At that time we named this range SOLITAIRE. For its period the speakers really were unique, and even today many delighted owners listen to them with satisfaction. In 1988 came the ADL series, consisting of small, compact active monitors, also featuring regulation; these speakers found widespread use in professional studios. When the digital age began in the 1990’s, T+A again took a leading role. The A2D was the world’s first fully active floor-standing loudspeaker with fully digital regulation. It was designed to process a digital signal, and incorporated 11 signal processors which controlled the entire system, providing an outstandingly linear frequency and phase response, and generating the steep-rise crossover filters required.
No other company can boast a comparable tradition of building passive and active loudspeakers as T+A - not to mention analogue and digital electronics - and we have exploited this virtually inexhaustible fund of expertise to the full in developing our latest flagships.
In terms of loudspeaker design, much has changed over the last twenty years, both in the realm of cabinet construction, loudspeaker drive units and electronics. Our response to these developments has been to equip our new TCI 1A and TCI 2A active loudspeakers with the finest components, reflecting the latest technology. The overall concept could be termed classic, in that the speakers are fully active and regulated, but the implementation is ground-breaking, incorporating laminated, three-dimensionally molded cabinets, active electronics and high-performance digital output stages.

CRITERION - TCI Passive Loudspeakers

CRITERION is a by-word for High-End loudspeakers.
TCI refers to Transmissionline Carbonfibre Impuls.
We have made minor revisions to our Criterion TAL series, and expanded it with the introduction of three new models of genuine high-end status. The three new TCI models are based on extremely sophisticated cabinets made of multi-layer laminated material, which is extremely strong, low in resonance and rigid. This complex manufacturing process enables us to produce high-quality cabinets with optimum acoustic qualities. The tweeters of the TCI models are recessed in the sculpted baffle, and this provides a significant improvement in their spatial imaging and phase characteristics.
The two large models employ a newly developed, relatively small electrostat which is responsible for the frequency range above 2000 Hz.
The curved electrostat has good angular dispersion characteristics and its feather light foil membrane features perfect transient response. As a result the speakers provide an incredibly clear, natural and pleasant sound image.

CRITERION - TAL Loudspeakers

CRITERION is a by-word for High-End loudspeakers. TAL refers to our latest transmission-line principle. The TAL system involves newly developed frequency-dependent sound absorption materials which provide a simple means of preventing interference between the line and the bass drivers. The result is an extremely linear frequency response in the fundamental range. At the same time the speakers’ dynamic characteristics, efficiency and lower limit frequency also gain significantly from this new development. TAL is actually the abbreviation for Transmission Absorbing Line, but it might be simpler and just as accurate to translate it as Thrilling, Agile and Lively. The cut-away model of the TAL 140 shows the complex construction of the transmission absorbing line principle.

LIGNUM Loudspeakers

LIGNUM - High-tech + Design
The LIGNUM series, developed by T+A, finally meets this demand: real wood loudspeaker cabinets which have all the elegance and form factors of their aluminum equivalents, but with an endearing charm of their own thanks to the curved, molded wooden cabinet. Based on the manufacturing process developed for the cabinets of our high-end TCI series, the new LIGNUM speakers are also made of laminated beech. This sophisticated - and necessarily expensive - technology enables us to produce very tight-radius curves, and small, very slender cabinets which still have a relatively high internal volume; this is crucial for good bass reproduction in any speaker.
Although the cabinet sides are only 10 mm thick, they are stiffer and better at damping resonance effects than conventional components of twice the thickness. The net result is that the LIGNUM cabinets possess all the basic requirements for superb sound qualities as well as offering stunning appearance.
The technical equipment of these speakers is just as refined as the cabinets themselves. All models feature our unique annular super-tweeter for the high-frequency range; this unit has been widely admired and is now produced in a further developed form; its significantly improved peak handling, linear frequency response, enormous dynamic capability and low harmonic distortion provide a level of high-frequency reproduction which is unique in this class. The extremely long-throw bass / mid-range units offer a totally linear response in the mid-range area; a characteristic which is very important in view of the D’Apolito arrangement of the bass / mid-range drivers employed. The symmetrical position of two bass / mid-range units around the high-frequency driver provides virtually perfect sound imaging characteristics, and this benefits surround set-ups as well as conventional stereo reproduction. The sound image appears to be completely separate from the loudspeakers themselves, and the listening room has much less influence on the sound. High-quality, accurately calculated crossover units ensure optimum frequency and phase response, combined with exemplary throw characteristics and peak handling.
All the loudspeakers in the family share very similar overall sound qualities: natural, wide-ranging, dynamic and totally uncolored.

Talis Speaker Series

The TALIS series of loudspeakers was introduced to the market for the first time in the year 2000, and immediately set new standards: refined design, superb workmanship and wonderful sound. Every aspect of the loudspeaker maker’s art had to be re-thought in order to generate powerful bass from such extremely slender cabinets, and the successful outcome was only possible through the use of the latest aluminum technology.
The cabinets are manufactured using complex profiled extrusions, which combine thin walls - for large net volumes - with extremely high strength. All covers and plinths take the form of solid aluminum plates. The cabinet surfaces feature durable finishes applied using extremely sophisticated processes.
We have now cautiously revised and improved this successful range, retaining the proven aluminum technology, but with further improvements to the design. Gently rounded front grilles and plinths give the cabinets an even more elegant appearance. The standard finishes are aluminum, black and white, which are a superb match to the latest trends in furnishing. The acoustic characteristics and qualities of the new TALIS loudspeakers offer further significant improvements. Reinforced baffles have enabled us to install recessed, flush-mounted drive units, and the result is a clear enhancement in linearity of frequency response even off-axis, providing a further improvement in the already first-class radiation characteristics in the mid-range.

Amphion Loudspeakers

helium2

Due to the success of helium+ helium2 project was not rushed at any point and our design team had more than sufficient time to come up with a small benchmark speaker.
The feedback from the market indicates that the time was well spent. Well proven helium titanium tweeter together with polypropylene midrange from creon blend perfectly together to produce cohesive and natural sound. helium2 might be the most versatile amphion product yet and user friendliness and flexibility are the key words.
As speaker is fully magnetic shielded it does not present any restrictions on speaker placement or –usage. In addition to being a main speaker in a small system helium2 can be used together with a subwoofer as a superb satellite speaker. It is also important to note, that helium2 is designed to act as a center speaker.
In addition to helium2s creon and athene will be especially happy having helium2 in the middle, as they share the same drivers (25 mm titanium tweeter and 5,25 nomex bass) and have the same crossover point of 1500 Hz.8 ohm nominal and 7 ohm minimum impedance ensure, that helium2 is an easy load to any amplifier - sensitivity is 86dB.

helium2 is available in following baffle/cabinet combinations:

Finnish birch veneer is used in both birch and cherry colored versions.

athene2

athene is amphion's reply to numerous requests from both dealers and end customers alike for a reasonably priced slim floorstander. Not wanting to make any compromises to the sound quality has caused long hours for our designers. As we wanted to make the speaker as wife friendly as possible the project has been highly challenging. To symbolize this painstaking design process we have named the new model athene, who was the goddess of war, wisdom, and crafts.
athene is a D'Appolito configured 2-way speaker equipped with 25 mm titanium tweeter and 14,5 cm nomex bass. The crossover point is 1500 Hz, which ensures pinpoint imagining and allows a perfectly functioning D'Appolito driver array.
Also the sensitivity is up at 87 dB, which means that despite being a 4 ohm speaker athene is easy to drive with wide range of amplifiers. athene forms a reference point in its price class for both sound quality and stylish looks. Finally a high end speaker, which can challenge even the lifestyle products in their own interior decoration game.

athene2 is available in:

creon2

amphion creon is built up on the same solid technical foundation as xenon, which has already been rated as one of worlds best and most attractive loudspeakers. Even if sold at a much lower pricepoint, creon introduces some of the same ingenious elements, which have made xenon so successful. Room reflections will be minimized due to U/U/D-enclosure system, which creates a cardioid diffusion pattern.
creon is a 3-way construction with 25 mm titanium tweeter, 14,5 cm nomex midrange and 21 cm side firing sandwich polypropylene bass. The crossover points are 1500 Hz and 150 Hz.
Despite all the impressive technical data, creon’s true beauty lies in its captivating sound, which is nicely complemented by its immaculate looks. Pictures do not do her justice, and therefore we urge you to visit your closest dealer to experience everything first hand.

creon2 is available in:

origo

To cater for the ever increasing home theater market amphion has released the long awaited center speaker - origo. Origo follows the well proven amphion design principles, and therefore is quite unconventional as a center.
In order to introduce slimmer enclosures and increase power handling most of the manufacturers are using double midranges in their center speakers. Contrary to the general knowledge a standard D’appolito configuration is only suitable for vertical use. When used horizontally it causes break-up problems. We at amphion can not follow this unhealthy trend and use this formula which will compromise the sound.
amphion’s basic concept of point source design is ideally suited for a home theater speaker, as it functions identically well in both vertical or horizontal positions. In order to optimize home theater enjoyment origo blends in perfectly with other amphion products.

origo is available in:

argon2

argon2 is a follow up for the most successful amphion model to date - argon. Many consider the classic argon to be one of the best two-way mini monitors in the market. Therefore the expectations for argon2 have been especially high. In order to continue the fine argon tradition the follower has gone through painstaking R&D process and everything has been reworked: slimmer, more rigid enclosure, bigger highly precise tweeter and a bass driver with high force factor which increases the speed and tonality of the bass. Naturally also the crossover topology is totally new and now the crossover point lies at breathtakingly low 1200 Hz! Despite the 85 dB sensitivity argon2 is an easy load for any amplifier, as the minimum impedance lies at 7 ohms.
Even if it was not one of the design goals, we are happy to note that argon2 is also fully magnetic shielded and therefore can be freely placed, even close to a TV set. Despite the differences in the bass driver argon2 blends perfectly together with amphion’s center speaker origo for multi channel applications. Despite being highly suitable for multi-channel argon2 is a true high end mini monitor. The feedback from the market clearly indicates, that argon has a worthy successor in argon2.

xenon

xenon might just be the most beautiful loudspeaker in the amphion range. But in this case looks merely follow function. Nothing has been sacrificed in order to design a premium quality loudspeaker, which will ensure maximum musical enjoyment while keeping a listening space livable. xenon introduces amphion's ingenious hypercardioid enclosure, which minimizes room reflections starting already from low frequencies (150 Hz upwards). Sculpture-like xenon has a narrow footprint and due to hypercardioid diffusion pattern can be positioned relatively close to back and side walls.
Newly introduced BAS (Bass Adjustment System) releases xenons full potential. BAS always ensures perfect bass response level, regardless of room measurements or speaker placement. xenons can be positioned solely based on the convenience of daily life and still enjoy perfect sound. Due to the combined effect of U/D/D and BAS the xenons are perfectly happy close to the walls or even in the corners still producing optimum sound. xenon's modern good looks and easy placement ensure, that it will achieve an unbeatable WAF-rating (wife acceptance factor).
For the more technically inclined it can be mentioned that xenon is a 3-way design having 25 mm tweeter, 17 cm mid and 21.5 cm woofer, which are all made of aluminum.
The crossover points are 150 and 1200 Hz. The total bass
adjustment range is 3 dB.
